PHRYGIA, Apameia. Commodus. AD 177-192. Æ Medallion (36mm, 29.09 g, 6h). Stratonikianos, magistrate. Struck circa AD 180-182. ΑV ΚΑΙ Μ ΑVΡ ΚOΜOΔOС CЄB, laureate and cuirassed bust right, wearing breastplate decorated with gorgoneion / ΑΠΑΜΕΩΝ / ΠΑΡΑ СΤΡΑΤOΝΙΚΙΑΝOV, river gods Maiandrus and Marsyas reclining facing one another; filleted thrysus between. RPC IV online – (though cf. 1741 & 3351 for similar legends and obv. type). Near VF, yellow-brown surfaces, with some green, minor porosity. Extremely rare.
